“Forest School is an inspirational process that offers all learners opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees”

Rewilding Forest School offers a Home Ed group on Thursday's from 11:00-14:00 at our woodland site behind Burview Hall. This group runs all year round in 6 to 8 week blocks. It is currently for children aged 4-9 years old and at the current time, we ask that children are accompanied by a parent/carer. It is run by a home educating parent who is trained as a forest school leader.

Our group will provide opportunities for, amongst other things: project work, den building, fire lighting, tool use, rope play and natural arts and crafts.

Forest school is a child-led environment - children are encouraged to follow their own interests, whether this is working with tools, digging in the ground, drawing and painting or playing imaginary games amongst the trees. The possibilities are endless! They are supported by the forest school leader and other adults within the environment to achieve their aims, whatever these may be.

Forest School can provide a unique way for home educated children to socialise whilst learning new skills. It can help children develop a sense of deep respect and responsibility for the natural world which is becoming increasingly important in a world facing climate change and other environmental challenges. In addition, spending time in nature is linked to reduced stress, improved mood, and better cognitive function.

Activities are suitable for ages 4-9 but younger siblings are welcome to come and join the fun whilst sessions remain accompanied - please purchase a sibling ticket if you would like a younger sibling to come along (non-walkers in a buggy/carrier are free).
